20 years old here, and I’m the first to comment on this in 11 years. Crazy. I was about 5 or 6 in January of 2009. I remember how big this was. Obama, the nations first black president. That’s all I knew. That’s what I remember everyone talking about. The news, my family, the school even my friends. I remember how pissed my parents were. That’s all. Now, after 15 years of learning and loving politics, and growing up to become a voter, I come here to say how dare these people. “I hope what is white will see what is right.” Are you kidding me??? No wonder my parents couldn’t stand these jokes in 08 and 12. Barack Obama is a race bating, anti American, Jihadist. His whole goal was to reshape the entire foundation of our nation, ungrateful to our forefathers. Malicious even toward them. He certainly shocked the foundation that he hates so much, the one he wants to disenfranchise built off white hegemony and the sacrifices of whites during the Civil War. Built of NorthWestern White European Liberal Values which are the only values in the world that treat all equally. The foundation that allowed the prosperity of The Civil Rights Movement and prosperity of different American ethnicities through the 70s-00s. All shocked by inflammatory racists like Obama, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Reverend Joseph Lowery. The faces responsible for the Trayvon Martin false narrative, “hands up don’t shoot” movement. The faces responsible for the bringing inflammatory racism back in the country. The faces responsible for isolating white right wing Americans. The faces responsible for the influence of the BLM movement and the veneration of George Floyd. It makes me sick. He’s the biggest enemy to this nation. Whenever the left parrots how Trump supposedly, “Started the divisiveness in this country” remind them of Reverend Joseph Lowery’s comments. Remind them of Al Shaprton, Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama supporting those comments. Donald Trump isn’t the division in this country, they are. Trump is a response against that division. Those who call me racist for this just prove my point. Trump 2024! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! GEN Z GREW UP UNDER THIS BS AND WERE DONE! WE ARE FOR TRUMP!

Sorry I don't know, there's no healthy skepticism in here, it's missing that element of contention he brought to conversations related to politics, and the whole Obama inauguration from most of the media was all unchallenging, everyone fawning over his elegance, his poise, all this really hollow nonsense that wasn't in any way a serious observation but just an incautious rejoice that he had won. He began to question something about Barack Obama with the Hilary Clinton choice, but whoever edited this decided to fade out the remarks about that. Where was the polarization he could always be relied upon for, I don't know, not in this one.

He was a brilliant man. He was near the end and clearly no longer gave two f#cks. All his life he spoke truth to power. He was born into it. He knew how corrupt the damn system was and how these morons think. He was a terrific writer, a wit and had style. It is clear he was tired and was fed up of all the BS. Look at the state of thing's now. We miss you Gore Vidal.❤

We saw this interview during the original broadcast when we were watching election coverage. 15 years later and it’s still in my top two. My other favorite was Dan Rather going full Texas in his coverage of the Bush-Gore race as it got clearer and clearer that we wouldn’t know who won.

Two clarifications. A) Washington, DC was not an 'all-black city' when Vidal was growing up in the 1930s; it became majority black in the mid-1950s and ceased being majority black in 2010. B) His grandfather Thomas Pryor Gore was, indeed, a US senator from Oklahoma but was never president of the Senate -- I wonder if Vidal even knows what that means -- and very, very distant from being the 'most powerful senator of the day.' Quite the opposite, in fact: An anti-New Deal Democrat with no influence whatsoever in FDR's administration. Of course, Vidal was delusional even before he became senile but it's worth the trouble to correct his dangerous nonsense.
